Grumparar's
the New Creatures: An Adventure & Field Guide - $7.95
T. E. Breitenbach
At last we learn what those fleeting images of movement are, the ones you
often see out of the corner of an eye, but which quickly disappear when you turn
to look! They are the New Creatures. With the aid of the magical Grumparar, we
join the author on his journey to the creature’s homeland where he befalls
adventure, mystery, and narrow escapes, as he seeks to learn more about the host
of funny, warm, and frightening New Creatures. And—as if that isn’t enough—along
the way we find answers to many of life’s imponderables: how sneakers get holes,
where houseflies go in winter, and how mountains talk to one another, to name
just a few. The text is well-illustrated with dozens of creatures and maps,
while an included "field guide" pictures and describes over 200 New Creatures.
Conceived by artist T. E. Breitenbach, well-known for his humorous Proverbidioms
series of paintings, this is an imaginative, allegorical adventure like none you
have ever been on. So, sit back, put your feet up, and prepare to be
entertained! (104 full-color illustrations, 5 maps, 1 chart)
Gregory Maguire, the author of Wicked writes:
“An impressive achievement, bravely independent and unique while at the same
time reminiscent in parts of Lewis Carroll, C.S. Lewis, and Tolkien (though
Tolkien is rarely as light) ... There is so much to admire—the
impressive invention and the unrelentingly energetic application of
so many areas of literary and aesthetic expertise—also the sheer
design of the text, the variety and competence of the illustrations,
the grandness of the conception.”

Hieronymus: A Musical Fantasy - $2.99 (A Musical Script)
T. E. Breitenbach
HIERONYMUS is a colorful, romantic fantasy about the medieval artist,
Hieronymus Bosch (painter of the Garden of Earthly Delights) — When Hieronymus
Bosch begins courting Anna, the daughter of a wealthy art patron, he finds
himself in a difficult position. It seems there are a great many odd creatures
living in his house, a result of his over-active imagination. This fact he
attempts to hide from Anna and the public. Anna soon discovers the creatures,
though she is instantly won over by the cute Sophie, and the funny pair of Otto
and Gregor. However, Erasmus, a jealous admirer of Anna, also learns of the
creatures and attempts to have Hieronymus arrested by Church authorities for the
practice of black magic (a serious matter in these times). Though Anna is brave
at first about the creatures, she is also concerned about having a normal and
wholesome home in which to raise a future family. She attempts to change
Hieronymus’ ways, an improbable wish, and she is left to do some serious
soul-searching. As Hieronymus' imagination seems to lead him deeper and deeper
into trouble, he abandons it for a time, even denying the existence of his
beloved creatures. Near the end, the desperate Erasmus kidnaps Sophie, and it is
Anna who rises to the occasion, pleading with Hieronymus to use his imagination
again in order to save her. Awakened from his doldrums, Hieronymus (in a
frightening scene) brings to life every object and creature in his house to help
rescue Sophie.
"T. E. Breitenbach, the creator of 'Hieronymus', is himself a painter of
fantasy, well known for his masterwork 'Proverbidioms', and as such he lends his
own personal angst to the show—the feeling that most everyone doesn’t really get
it, even those closest to you. The passion, the joy, the pain—the creation and
reality of such."
"Hieronymus has all of the emotional highs and lows that we so enjoy in a
musical. The love story is warm and uplifting, the villain is hellishly evil,
the melodies are lush and singable, and the dances splendid and exciting. The
comedy and the fabulous creatures are unforgettable.
"This show is about imagination, and, whether staged simply or extravagantly, it
offers directors great creative opportunities."

Little Black Boxes -
$2.99 (A Musical Script)
T. E. Breitenbach
LITTLE BLACK BOXES is a magical, romantic fantasy. It takes place circa 1920. A
small town is turned upside down when a stranger, wearing a bowler and mustache,
rides into town on his bike and selectively hands out a dozen little, black
boxes. He instructs the new owners not to open his or her boxes, for if they do
the boxes will be empty. However, he says that their patience will bring them
(or someone they know) a treasure. Along the way, lost loves are found,
mysteries uncovered, murderers and crooks are routed out, and there is, perhaps,
a miracle or two. Anyway—everyone will get exactly what they deserve! Learn how
lives are changed for the better or worse as this unusual situation is dealt
with.
Little Black Boxes is an ideal ensemble piece! Several simultaneous stories are
being told, ensuring that no two characters dominate the performance.
"Little Black Boxes is a magical and charming show. Mr. Breitenbach creates
credible characters that we really care about. I was left with a very good
feeling."
