What Is A Giclee Fine Art Print?
One
of the newest and most precise methods of fine art reproduction utilizes
the Giclee (zhee-clay) process. Giclee is a French word meaning
“spraying of ink”.
With
a pallet of over 7 million colors, and a process delivering up to 4
million droplets of ink per second, prints can be reproduced that
capture every nuance of the originals with exquisite detail and
vibrancy.
Most importantly, the artist is an
integral part of the Giclee process. Test prints are made for the artist’s
inspection. Changes are marked, and additional prints are submitted
until the artist is satisfied with the result— in a way, making the
print an original of its own.
Once the adjustments are approved, the final
print is made on archival-quality canvas using specially-developed
pigmented inks
designed to last well over 100 years without noticeable fading.
Because
the quality of Giclee prints is superior to all other printmaking
methods, we recommend that customers treat their Giclee prints the same
as they would an original piece of art. You should not expose it
to prolonged sunlight or other harsh conditions. We will spray a special
coating on your Giclee which gives additional UV protection, protection
from water, and from eventual
cracking of the canvas. How Do I Order One?
Should you decide that you would like to order a full-size replica of
Proverbidioms (or any other size of any of T. E. Breitenbach's paintings),
E-mail or call us on the phone. A Giclee will be
special ordered just for you and will take about 3 to 4 weeks to be made.
Because this is a special order, and because of the time and expense of
producing a Giclee, you will be charged a non-refundable deposit of 1/3rd
the purchase price.
When your print is ready and it has been inspected by the
artist, the balance will be charged to you and the Giclee canvas will be
shipped (insured), rolled in a tube. You will be responsible for having it
mounted and framed. (Because of the large sizes, it is impractical for us to do
this here and then have it shipped that way.) Your local frame shop should
know exactly what to do. A wall mounting is also possible.
What Is The Cost?
Giclees typically sell for about $135 a square foot. Our
charge is $100 per square foot. An original-sized Proverbidioms measures
45x67 inches, or 21 square feet, and thus your price is $2,100 shipping
included*. Remember
that you can also order smaller sizes. A 32 x 48 inch Proverbidioms
(still a fairly large piece) sells for $1,050.
